Built For Faces That Are Still Growing

Kids' faces change shape and size fast, and a rigid, one-size frame just can't keep up. Tomato Glasses is built around adjustability from the ground up: nosepad height has 3 individual settings, screwed into place rather than clipped on, and temple tips have 6 adjustable length settings, so a single pair can be fine-tuned to fit properly for much longer than a standard frame.

Alternative nosepad shapes are also available for Asian fit or differently shaped nose bridges, a genuinely common need for younger children with a flatter bridge profile, so the frame sits securely rather than sliding down.

Why Rounder Shapes Suit Myopia Control Lenses

Myopia control lenses like MiYOSMART and Stellest work differently to standard lenses: a clear central zone corrects vision as normal, surrounded by a ring-shaped treatment zone that does the actual work of slowing eye growth. That ring needs room to sit within the lens.

A smaller or heavily angular frame can crop the edges of that treatment ring, reducing how much of it stays within your child's usable field of vision. Tomato Glasses' rounded shape ranges are a genuinely good match for this, keeping more of the lens, and more of the treatment zone, in play. If myopia control is on the table, it's worth discussing frame shape and lens together at your child's fitting.

Common Questions

Tomato Glasses Questions We're Asked Often

What ages does Tomato Glasses suit?
The range runs across three groups: Baby (style TBAC), Kids (TKAC, TKBC, TKCC) and Junior (TJAC, TJBC, TJCC, TJDC), covering babies through to teens. Each style comes in multiple sizes, from around 40mm up to 51mm, so there's genuine room to grow into rather than sizing up to a completely different frame.
How do the adjustable nosepads actually work?
The nosepad height has 3 individual settings, screwed into place rather than just pushed on, so they stay put through active play. Alternative nosepad shapes are also available for Asian fit or different sized nose bridges, which matters for a lot of younger children with a flatter bridge profile.
Will they hold up to an active kid?
That's really the point of the design. Tomato Glasses are lightweight, non-toxic, hypoallergenic and FDA approved, built from flexible, strong materials that are meant to bend rather than snap. Temple tips have 6 adjustable length settings, and a headstrap can be fitted for extra security during sport or for younger kids who tend to pull at their glasses.
Can Tomato Glasses be fitted with myopia control lenses?
Yes, and their rounded shapes are a genuinely good match. Myopia control lenses like MiYOSMART and Stellest work by placing a treatment zone in a ring around the central optical zone, and a rounder, larger lens shape keeps more of that ring within the usable field of vision than a small or heavily angular frame would. We're happy to talk through frame shape alongside lens choice if myopia control is relevant for your child.
What's included when I buy a pair?
Each pair comes with additional screws, spare nosepads, a headstrap, spare temple tips, a cleaning cloth, a glasses case and a screwdriver, everything needed to keep adjusting the fit as your child grows.
Can I see the full range of colours and sizes in-store?
Yes, it's genuinely worth trying a few on in person given how much the adjustability changes the fit. Give us a call ahead of your visit if you'd like us to have a particular style or size ready to try.
How much do Tomato Glasses cost?
Pricing depends on the style and lens options you choose, including whether myopia control lenses like MiYOSMART or Stellest are fitted. We give you an exact, itemised quote at your consultation once we know your child's prescription and preferred style.
Are Tomato Glasses covered by health fund extras or Medicare?
Most Australian health funds with optical extras cover contribute towards children's frames and lenses, and we can process claims via HICAPS at the time of purchase. Bring your health fund card to your child's appointment and we'll check the remaining benefit.
How do I know if my child needs glasses at all?
Signs can include sitting close to screens, squinting, holding books close, or reduced concentration at school, though many children with a vision problem show no obvious signs at all. Regular children's eye tests, ideally from around age three or four and then periodically through school, are the most reliable way to catch a problem early.
Will my child's glasses need replacing often as they grow?
The adjustable nosepads, temple length and multiple size options in the Tomato Glasses range are specifically designed to extend how long a single pair fits comfortably, but prescription changes, particularly during active myopia progression, may still mean a lens update before the frame itself is outgrown. We monitor this at regular reviews.
Where can I get Tomato Glasses fitted for my child in Melbourne?
We fit the full Tomato Glasses range at our Kew East practice, alongside children's eye tests and myopia management assessments. We see families from across Melbourne's inner east and further afield for children's eyewear fittings.
