Menicon Miru: Japanese Precision

Miru means "to see" in Japanese, and it's the name behind two of the more precisely engineered contact lens ranges we fit: an ultra-thin daily disposable and a high-oxygen monthly lens, both built to Menicon's decades of Japanese lens manufacturing standards.

MENICON'S HISTORY IN CONTACT LENS DESIGN

Two Lenses, Built Around Two Different Lifestyles

Menicon has been designing and manufacturing contact lenses in Japan for more than 60 years, and the Miru range is where that precision shows up most directly for everyday wearers. Rather than one lens trying to suit everyone, Menicon built two genuinely different designs: Miru 1 Day for wearers who want maximum simplicity and portability, and Miru 1 Month for wearers who want a reusable lens that still performs at a very high level.

Both share the same underlying philosophy: get the engineering details right, down to the packaging, so the lens itself gets out of the way of your day.

The Miru Range

Miru 1 Day & Miru 1 Month

DAILY DISPOSABLE

Miru 1 Day

Packaged in what Menicon calls the world's thinnest flat pack, at just 1mm, genuinely thin enough to carry a spare lens in your wallet. The flat pack also presents the lens the right way up every time, which makes handling noticeably easier.

MONTHLY

Miru 1 Month

A silicone hydrogel monthly lens with one of the highest oxygen transmission rates available in a soft lens (Dk/t of 161), plus surface technology that resists deposits and bacterial adhesion. Available in spherical, toric and multifocal designs, +6.00 to -13.00.

Who It Suits

A Fit For Both Ends Of The Spectrum

On-The-Go Wearers

Miru 1 Day's flat pack format makes it genuinely practical to carry a spare, whether that's for travel, sport, or an unplanned late night.

High Oxygen Priority

Miru 1 Month's very high Dk/t rating suits wearers who want a reusable lens without compromising on how much oxygen reaches the cornea.

Astigmatism & Presbyopia

Toric and multifocal designs within the Miru 1 Month range mean most prescriptions are covered without needing a custom lens.

Common Questions

Menicon Miru Questions We're Asked Often

What does Miru mean?
Miru is Japanese for "to see". It's the name Menicon gives its flagship soft lens range, engineered and manufactured in Japan to the precision Menicon is known for after more than 60 years making contact lenses.
What's the difference between Miru 1 Day and Miru 1 Month?
Miru 1 Day is a daily disposable, packaged in what Menicon calls the world's thinnest flat pack, thin enough to genuinely carry in a wallet for a spare lens on the go. Miru 1 Month is a silicone hydrogel monthly lens built around very high oxygen transmission, for wearers who prefer a reusable lens over a daily routine.
Can I get Miru lenses if I have astigmatism or need multifocal correction?
Yes. The Miru 1 Month range includes toric and multifocal designs across a prescription range of +6.00 to -13.00, so most wearers with astigmatism or presbyopia are covered without needing to move to a custom lens.
What should I use to care for Miru 1 Month lenses?
We stock Menicon's own MeniCare Soft multipurpose solution alongside Miru 1 Month, matched by the same manufacturer to the lens material. See our lens care solutions page for the full range.
How much do Miru contact lenses cost?
Pricing depends on whether you choose Miru 1 Day or Miru 1 Month, and whether you need a toric or multifocal design. We give you an exact, itemised quote at your consultation once we know your prescription and preferred wearing schedule.
Is Miru made by the same company as Menicon Z or Menicon Progent?
Yes, Miru is Menicon's soft contact lens range, from the same Japanese manufacturer behind Menicon Z rigid lenses and Progent deep-cleaning solution. We're a Menicon-fitting practice across their soft, rigid and cleaning product ranges, so we can match you to whichever Menicon product genuinely suits your eyes.
Why would I choose Miru over a more well-known contact lens brand?
Miru isn't as heavily marketed in Australia as some larger brands, but it's a well-established Japanese lens with a genuinely broad prescription range, particularly useful for higher astigmatism and presbyopia corrections. We stock it because the lens material and design perform well for many patients, not because of brand familiarity.
Can children or teenagers wear Miru contact lenses?
Yes, Miru 1 Day is a suitable option for many younger contact lens wearers, particularly given the hygiene benefits of a fresh daily lens. We'll assess your child's maturity and eye health at a fitting before recommending any contact lens, Miru or otherwise.
Do I need an eye test before switching to Miru lenses?
Yes. We need a current, valid prescription and a contact lens fitting assessment before dispensing Miru, or any other brand, since contact lens parameters differ from a spectacle prescription and depend on your corneal curvature and eye health as well as your refractive error.
Where can I get fitted for Miru contact lenses in Melbourne?
We fit the full Miru range at our Kew East practice as part of our broader Menicon contact lens fitting service. We see patients from across Melbourne's inner east and further afield for Miru fittings and reviews.
