Eyecare Concepts clinic, Melbourne
About Us

Change The Way You Think About Optometry

Eyecare Concepts is more than glasses. We're one of Melbourne's most experienced myopia management clinics, built around primary eye care and protecting vision for life.

Not Just Glasses

More Than Just Glasses

Eyecare Concepts is built around primary eye care. That means you can come to us first for any concern about your eyes, not only when you're due for new glasses.

Beyond correcting your vision, our optometry team is therapeutically endorsed by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to prescribe scheduled medicines, diagnose eye conditions and manage treatment for a wide range of eye diseases.

Clinical Care First

We Place Your Eye Health First

Walk into our clinic and you'll notice something different. Our purpose-built premises are largely dedicated to eye testing and clinical care, fitted with a comprehensive suite of advanced eye care diagnostic technology.

We are not just another glasses shop. Every part of our clinic is designed around understanding what's happening inside your eyes, not simply what prescription sits in front of them.

Kids' Eye Care

Dedicated To Helping Children With Myopia

Our optometry team has a particular focus on myopia management and orthokeratology, working to prevent and slow the progression of short-sightedness in kids and teenagers.

As a clinic offering the complete range of evidence-based myopia management options, both optical and medical, we take pride in helping prevent vision deterioration in children and giving them the best possible vision for life. As a parent, you can expect our honest, unbiased opinion on which approach best suits your child.

Preventative eye care is what this clinic is about. It's why parents from all across Melbourne choose Eyecare Concepts for their children's vision care.

The Myopia Epidemic Is Real

It's Not Just A Vision Issue

50%

of the world's population is predicted to be short-sighted by the year 2050

Short-sightedness isn't just about wearing glasses. It's an eye condition with potentially serious consequences and a real risk of permanent vision impairment. Glasses and contact lenses mask the blur, but a myopic eye is more prone to disease, because it has been permanently stretched from growing too long. Myopia is a children's health issue.

More children around the world are developing vision problems from myopia, and at an earlier age, than in any previous generation, not only across Asia but throughout the United States, Europe and Australia too. In an era of urbanisation, more time spent on screens and more time spent indoors, this trend is expected to continue without intervention.

Our Founder's Story

“

I still remember the day I got glasses for the first time, at just 7 years old. My dad took me to an optometrist and they found out I had problems seeing in the distance.

As my eyesight continued to deteriorate while growing up, going to the optometrist every year for stronger lenses was just a fact of life of being short-sighted. Over time, my glasses got ever stronger, thicker and heavier.

Being completely dependent on my glasses or contact lenses every moment of my life is no fun. Without them, everything is just a blur.

I also know that with my high myopia of over −8.00 and an eye length of 28.2mm, I'm at high risk of developing eye diseases such as retinal detachment, glaucoma and myopic macular degeneration. Even now, having had a vitreous detachment several years ago, I constantly notice large, dense floaters moving through my vision. I do worry about losing my eyesight. Everyone would. Vision is such a precious thing.

With advances in technology and scientific knowledge, we now have treatments that effectively slow and stop myopia progression, treatments that simply weren't available when I was a child. As an optometrist, I've seen too many adults with high myopia like myself who never had these options to prevent their vision deteriorating, and I see many adults now in their later years enduring vision impairment from eye diseases linked to their myopia.

So my wish for this clinic is to give today's children the opportunity to grow up with better vision and healthier eyes, for life.
