Clear Vision, Built-In Myopia Control

Myopia control contact lenses look and feel like ordinary soft contact lenses, worn during waking hours and removed at night, but their optical design does considerably more than correct blur. A central zone focuses light normally for sharp distance vision, while the surrounding lens creates a second, deliberately out-of-focus image just in front of the retina.

That dual-focus signal is what slows the eye's tendency to keep elongating, addressing the structural cause of progressing myopia rather than only its symptom.

How It Works

Slowing Eye Growth, Not Just Blurring Vision

All three of our contact lens options share the same underlying principle for slowing myopia progression.

01

A Clear Central Zone Corrects Everyday Vision

The middle of the lens works just like a standard lens, giving your child sharp, clear eyesight for reading, the whiteboard and everyday life.

02

A Peripheral Treatment Zone Creates Defocus

Surrounding the clear centre, each lens creates a deliberate out-of-focus signal just in front of the retina.

03

The Signal Moves Naturally With The Eye

Because it's a contact lens, the treatment zone travels with the eye in every direction of gaze, not fixed to a frame position.

In Plain Terms

A normal lens only helps your child see clearly today. Myopia control contact lenses aim to also change the trajectory of their eyesight over time.

How Eyecare Concepts Fits Contact Lenses

We help every family choose between our three contact lens options and manage the fitting and training process from day one.

01

Comprehensive Assessment

We assess prescription, ocular health and readiness for contact lens wear, and take a baseline axial length measurement.

02

Lens Selection & Fitting

We compare our three lens options for your child's needs, fit for comfort and coverage, then train safe insertion and removal.

03

Ongoing Monitoring

We review at regular intervals, tracking axial length and prescription so you can see exactly how treatment is working.

Common Questions

Myopia Control Contact Lens Questions We're Asked Often

How do myopia control contact lenses work?
Dual-focus soft contact lenses combine two optical zones in every lens: a central zone that corrects distance vision normally, and surrounding zones that create a second, out-of-focus image slightly in front of the retina. That out-of-focus signal appears to slow the eye's tendency to keep elongating, while the central zone keeps vision clear.
Which contact lens brands do you offer for myopia control?
We offer three: MiSight 1 Day, the original and most extensively studied option; MyDay MiSight 1 Day, built on a newer, higher-oxygen lens platform with the same optics; and ACUVUE Abiliti 1-Day, Johnson & Johnson's newer TGA-approved option. Each has its own dedicated page with full details.
At what age can a child start myopia control contact lenses?
Most of our lenses are designed and studied for children from around age 7 to 8, with MiSight specifically approved for children starting wear between 8 and 12. Younger or older children can sometimes be suitable too, assessed individually based on maturity and hygiene ability.
Are children responsible enough to handle daily contact lenses?
Generally, yes. Research suggests children aged 8 to 12 are often more careful, compliant contact lens wearers than teenagers or adults, when given proper training in insertion, removal and hygiene, which we make sure happens before a child wears lenses unsupervised.
Do the lenses need to be worn every day to work?
For the best result, yes. Trial data reflects children wearing the lenses full days, generally at least 6 to 7 days a week, since the myopia control effect depends on the eye consistently receiving the defocus signal during waking hours.
Are myopia control contact lenses safe for daily wear?
Yes, with the same hygiene principles as any daily soft contact lens: proper insertion and removal technique, not sleeping in them, and replacing them as directed. Daily disposable designs further reduce handling and lens care requirements, which suits many children well.
How do contact lenses compare with OrthoK or myopia control glasses?
All three, along with atropine and red-light therapy, sit among our five treatment options, and the top-tier options show broadly comparable effectiveness. Contact lenses suit children who want clear vision without glasses during the day and are ready for lens handling; our Myopia Control Treatments page compares all five in detail.
Can myopia control contact lenses be worn for sport and swimming?
They're well suited to sport, without the fogging or slipping issues of glasses. For swimming specifically, we recommend removing lenses beforehand where practical, consistent with general contact lens hygiene advice.
What happens if my child loses a lens during the day?
Since all three of our lenses are daily disposables, a spare lens or two kept on hand solves this easily, simply insert a new one.
Are these lenses reused, or thrown away each day?
All three of our myopia control contact lenses are single-use daily disposables: a fresh, sterile lens is inserted each morning and disposed of that night, with no cleaning or storage required.
