Glasses That Actually Fit

A frame that constantly slides down your nose or pinches at the bridge usually isn't a sizing problem, it's a shape problem. Our Asian fit range is built around a genuinely different set of measurements, not just a smaller version of a standard frame.

Why Standard Frames Don't Always Fit

Most mainstream frame ranges are designed around one set of average face measurements: a certain bridge height, cheekbone width and frame curvature. Plenty of faces, including many Asian faces, sit outside that average, often with a lower, flatter nose bridge and wider, higher cheekbones. Put a standard frame on a face like that and it has nowhere secure to rest, so it slides down, sits crooked, or presses uncomfortably on the cheeks.

"Asian fit" (sometimes called "alternate fit") frames aren't a scaled-down standard frame, they're built from a different set of measurements entirely, designed to sit properly on this face shape from the outset rather than being adjusted after the fact.

What's Actually Different

Four Measurements, Changed On Purpose

Narrower Bridge
Sized to a lower, flatter bridge profile, so the frame has proper contact points instead of a gap it slides through.
Elevated, Longer Nose Pads
Raised and extended to actually reach and grip a lower bridge, rather than resting on air.
Reduced Frame Curvature
A flatter front curve suited to wider, higher cheekbones, so the frame doesn't press or pinch at the sides.
Wider Frame Front
Proportioned to sit comfortably across wider cheekbones without narrowing the field of vision.
Who It's For

A Face Shape, Not A Rule

"Asian fit" describes a set of measurements, not an eligibility list.

Comfort Over Category

Plenty of our patients without an Asian background find these frames sit noticeably better, simply because their own bridge and cheekbone shape suits the design.

Fewer Adjustments Over Time

A frame that's properly shaped from the start needs far fewer repeat visits for re-bending and re-tightening than one that's constantly slipping.

Style Without Compromise

Our Asian fit range spans a wide range of shapes, textures and colours, so fit doesn't mean settling for fewer style options.

Common Questions

Asian Fit Questions We're Asked Often

How do I know if I need Asian fit frames?
The clearest sign is a standard frame constantly sliding down your nose, pinching at the bridge, or sitting unevenly because one side rests lower than the other. If that sounds familiar, it's worth trying an Asian fit frame at your next visit, regardless of your background, since bridge and cheekbone shape vary from person to person, not strictly by ethnicity.
Is Asian fit eyewear only for people of Asian background?
No. "Asian fit" describes a set of frame measurements, a narrower bridge width, elevated nose pads, reduced front curvature, not a rule about who can wear them. Plenty of our patients without an Asian background find these frames more comfortable too, simply because their own bridge and cheekbone shape suits the design better.
Do Asian fit frames cost more than standard frames?
Not inherently. Pricing depends on the specific frame and brand you choose, the same as any other frame in our collection, rather than the fit category itself.
Can children need Asian fit frames too?
Yes, and it's common. Our Tomato Glasses range for children includes swappable nosepads specifically for flatter, lower bridges, which is often a more practical solution for a still-growing face than a fixed Asian fit adult frame. See our Kids Eyewear page for detail.
Which frame brands offer genuine Asian fit options?
Several of the brands we stock offer dedicated Asian fit lines with the bridge width, nose pad height and front curvature adjusted at the design stage rather than as an afterthought. We can show you which options in our current range are true Asian fit designs versus standard frames that happen to fit reasonably well, so you're comparing like with like.
Can any frame be adjusted to fit better instead of buying Asian fit?
Minor adjustments help at the margins, bending nose pads or slightly reshaping the bridge, but there are limits. If a frame's underlying bridge width and curvature are fundamentally mismatched to your face, no amount of adjusting will make it sit properly long-term. We'll always try adjustment first, and recommend an Asian fit design only when it's genuinely needed.
Do Asian fit frames work for sunglasses too?
Yes. The same bridge fit issues that affect everyday glasses apply just as much to sunglasses, and several of the brands we stock offer Asian fit sunglass frames alongside their optical ranges, including prescription sun lens options.
How do I book a fitting for Asian fit frames in Melbourne?
You can book a dispensing appointment at our Kew East practice, where we'll assess your bridge and cheekbone shape, try several Asian fit and standard options side by side, and fit whichever frame genuinely sits best on your face. We see patients from across Melbourne's inner east and further afield for frame fittings.
What's the difference between Asian fit and a "low bridge fit" label?
They describe largely the same underlying design, a narrower bridge, higher nose pads and reduced front curvature, but "low bridge fit" has become the more common industry-neutral term precisely because bridge shape isn't strictly tied to ethnicity. We use both terms interchangeably and focus on the measurements rather than the label.
Will Asian fit frames suit a strong prescription lens?
Generally yes, and in some cases they help. A frame that sits closer to your face and higher on your nose can actually improve the optics of a strong prescription lens by reducing vertex distance, alongside the comfort benefit. We'll factor your prescription into the frame recommendation at your fitting.
