For You And Your Family

Quality Eye Care For All

We are a family optometry clinic. We test for all kinds of vision and eye health problems, for both adults and children — whether you're short-sighted, long-sighted, or have astigmatism. Whether you're 5, 45 or 102.

Even if you have good vision, it's still a good idea to have your eye health checked at least every 2 years.

Don't take your vision for granted

While a lot of vision problems are correctable, some vision losses are irreversible. And sometimes vision loss is slow, gradual and without obvious symptoms until it's too late. The only way to ensure good vision is to have your eyes examined regularly by an eye care professional, so that any potential eye health conditions are detected and treated early.

A Lifetime Of Care

Eye Care At Every Stage Of Life

From your child's very first eye test to ongoing care well into your senior years, here's how we look after your family's eyes at each stage of life.

Children's Vision

Good vision is essential for effective learning. Children are often unaware of changes in their eyesight, struggling to see at school without anyone knowing. A baseline eye test is recommended for all children before starting school, and every year thereafter.

Vision Problems

Adults can develop vision problems in the distance as well as at near. Regular eye tests at least every 2 years are recommended — especially if there are any eye diseases that run in your family, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration.

Dry eye care
Dry Eye Care

Studies have found that nearly 85% of Australians have been impacted by symptoms of dry eye in their lifetime, ranging from discomfort to chronic dry eyes which can affect the ocular health of the cornea. A Dry Eye Assessment is recommended to assess and recommend treatment options.

Eye Health Conditions

Our eyes change as we age. Cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other eye conditions can develop as part of the ageing process. For this reason, we recommend annual eye tests for people over the age of 60.

We look forward to seeing you and your family.

Common Questions

Eye Care For Every Age, Answered

Does Eyecare Concepts see patients of all ages, from toddlers to seniors?
Yes — we're a family optometry clinic, and we welcome patients from as young as 2 or 3 right through to well into their 100s. Whether you're bringing in a child for their very first eye test, need your own glasses updated, or are caring for an ageing parent, our team can look after every generation of your family under one roof. See our dedicated children's eye care page for more on testing young kids.
At what age should my child have their first eye test?
We recommend a baseline eye test before your child starts school, and every year after that. Around 80% of what a child learns in the classroom comes through their eyes, and kids are often unaware anything's wrong, so a comfortable, age-appropriate check early on helps catch problems while they're easiest to manage. Learn more on our children's vision page.
How often should adults have their eyes tested?
We generally recommend an eye test at least every 2 years for adults with no known issues, and more frequently if you have a family history of conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration, or if you notice any change in your vision. Regular checks matter even if your vision feels fine, because some eye conditions progress slowly with no obvious symptoms until damage has already occurred.
Why do you recommend annual eye tests after age 60?
Our eyes change more quickly as we age, and conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy become more common later in life. Annual testing after 60 gives us the best chance of catching these eye health conditions early, when treatment is most effective and any vision loss can often be prevented or slowed.
I have good vision — do I still need regular eye tests?
Yes. Good vision doesn't necessarily mean healthy eyes — some of the most serious eye conditions cause no noticeable symptoms until they're already quite advanced, and any vision lost this way usually can't be recovered. A comprehensive eye test checks the health of your eyes, not just your prescription, which is why we recommend one at least every 2 years even if you're seeing perfectly well.
Is an eye test covered by Medicare?
In Australia, Medicare typically contributes toward the cost of a comprehensive eye test for eligible patients with a valid Medicare card, with how often you're covered depending on factors like your age and risk profile. Just bring your Medicare card along and our team will let you know exactly what's covered and what, if anything, to expect out of pocket.
Do you treat dry eye as well as testing vision?
Yes. Dry eye is extremely common — studies suggest around 85% of Australians experience dry eye symptoms at some point in their lives, ranging from mild discomfort to more chronic dryness that can affect the health of the cornea. We offer a dedicated Dry Eye Assessment to identify the cause and recommend the right treatment for you.
Can I book eye tests for my whole family at the same practice?
Absolutely — that's exactly how we're set up. Many of our patients bring their children, parents and grandparents to us for care spanning every stage of life, from a first childhood eye test through to ongoing management of adult vision problems and age-related eye conditions. Just get in touch and we can help coordinate appointments for multiple family members.
Is your Kew East practice easy to get to if I have mobility needs or use a wheelchair or pram?
We're a ground-floor practice on the High Street shopping strip in Kew East, with parking close by. If you or a family member has particular mobility needs, just mention it when you book your appointment or give us a call beforehand, and we'll do everything we can to make your visit as easy as possible.
I'm nervous about eye exams, or it's my first time — what should I expect?
There's nothing to worry about. Our team is used to putting first-time patients, children and anyone feeling a little anxious at ease, and we'll explain each step of the test as we go. If you'd like extra time, want a family member in the room with you, or have any specific concerns, just let us know when you book and we'll make sure you're comfortable throughout your visit.
