Where a rebate applies, our team processes it for you immediately after your consultation, with the funds credited automatically to your linked bank account. There's no need to submit a claim yourself.

Common Questions

Fees & Charges FAQs

Is a comprehensive eye test bulk billed at Eyecare Concepts?
No. Eyecare Concepts is a private billing clinic, so a consultation fee applies to every appointment — our comprehensive eye exam packages start at $120. Where you're eligible, a Medicare rebate (typically $34.00 or $67.85 depending on the type of consultation and testing involved) is processed for you in-clinic straight after your appointment, with the rebate paid automatically to your linked bank account.
What's the out-of-pocket gap payment after my Medicare rebate?
It depends on which package and Medicare rebate applies to your visit. As an example, our $120 comprehensive eye test with a $67.85 rebate leaves a gap of around $52.15, while a $34.00 rebate leaves a larger gap. Your gap is confirmed at the time you book, and the rebate itself is processed for you on the spot — no separate claim to lodge.
Do you process private health fund or HICAPS claims on the spot?
Yes, for optical extras — glasses and contact lenses — we process claims in-clinic via HICAPS for all major Australian health funds, so you only pay the gap on your eyewear at the time. Note this is separate to your consultation fee, which is billed privately with a Medicare rebate where eligible. See our Health Fund Rebates page for full details on what your extras cover contributes.
What's the difference between the $120 and $160 eye test packages?
Both are full 30–45 minute comprehensive consultations with computerised eye testing. The higher-fee packages add OCT 3D optic disc and macula imaging, which gives us a detailed cross-section of the back of your eye to detect glaucoma, macular degeneration and other conditions earlier than a standard exam alone. Our full package breakdown is above — scroll up to compare inclusions side by side.
How much does a follow-up or review appointment cost?
Existing patient reviews are priced lower than a new comprehensive exam, from $50 for a myopia management, OrthoK or contact lens review up to $80 for a basic eye test or keratoconus/scleral/hybrid lens review. These fees apply to Medicare-eligible patients, with additional charges for non-Medicare holders. See the full list in the Other Appointment Types & Fees section above.
Is there a cancellation or no-show fee?
Yes. As a busy clinic we ask for at least 2 business days' notice for any change. Cancelling within 2 business days, or not attending, incurs a $50 late cancellation/no-show fee, and payment is required before we can book you in again. Details are in our booking policy above and on our Terms & Conditions page.
Do you take a reservation fee when I book?
For new patients, Saturday appointments, and multiple family bookings, we take a $25 per-patient reservation fee. It's held in credit and applied straight to your consultation fee on the day — it's only forfeited if you cancel late or don't show. You can check appointment availability and book via our online booking page.
Are OrthoK and scleral lens packages paid upfront, or can they be split into payments?
OrthoK and scleral lens treatment is priced as a package (from $1,400 for OrthoK, from $2,200 for scleral lenses) covering the assessment, custom lenses, fitting and the first year of monitoring. Because every case is different, please speak with our team directly about payment timing and any staged payment options available for your treatment plan — we're happy to talk this through before you commit.
Do fees change if I don't have a Medicare card or am a visitor to Australia?
The consultation fee itself is the same either way, but without Medicare eligibility you won't receive the rebate that usually reduces your out-of-pocket gap, so your final cost will be closer to the full package price. If you're unsure whether Medicare applies to your situation, our Do I Need An Eye Test? and Eye Test Information pages explain eligibility and what to expect, or just ask our team when you book.
How do I know which appointment type and fee applies to me?
If you're a new patient, one of our comprehensive packages above is the right starting point. If you're an existing patient due for a check-up, contact lens fit or dry eye treatment, the lower-fee review appointments will usually apply instead. Not sure which one you need? Our Eye Test Information page explains what each visit involves, or you can book online via our online booking page and our team will confirm the right appointment type for you.
